This February, IPR Healthcare is proud to continue its commitment to community engagement through Giselle Shapiro, who regularly volunteers her time with residents at the Village of the Heights.
Giselle is a memory care volunteer with IPR Healthcare who spends time connecting with residents through storytelling and music. Her visits focus on creating moments of comfort, familiarity, and genuine human connection for individuals living with memory loss.
Giselle’s involvement with the Village of the Heights is not new. Earlier this year, she led a short story reading on January 7 and hosted a sing along on January 30. Those visits created meaningful moments of connection, comfort, and joy that residents and staff continue to appreciate.
Building on that meaningful start, Giselle will be returning twice more this February to continue engaging residents through familiar and uplifting activities. On February 18, she will lead another short story reading. Storytelling offers residents a calm and engaging experience that encourages listening, imagination, and gentle cognitive stimulation. For individuals living with memory loss, these shared moments often provide comfort and a sense of familiarity.
On February 27, Giselle will host a sing along, inviting residents to participate in familiar songs that encourage emotional expression, movement, and connection. Music has a powerful ability to reach memory and emotion, often creating moments of recognition and shared joy.
The positive impact of Giselle’s ongoing presence has been recognized by memory care leadership. Sherippa London, Director of Memory Care at the Village of the Heights, shared the following:
Giselle, with IPR Healthcare, has been a valued volunteer at The Heights. She generously gives her time each month by leading engaging short story readings and hosting uplifting sing along sessions for our residents. Her warm presence, enthusiasm, and dedication bring meaningful moments of connection, joy, and cognitive stimulation to our community. We truly appreciate her commitment and the positive impact she continues to make in the lives of our residents.
At IPR Healthcare, care extends beyond clinical services. While our teams provide skilled home health and hospice care throughout the Houston area, our mission also includes showing up for the community in meaningful ways.
Giselle’s continued volunteer work reflects the heart of IPR Healthcare. Presence. Compassion. And genuine connection with those we serve.
