IPR Healthcare Community Outreach was on full display at the Wheelhouse Reclaim Run 5K in Deer Park, Texas. What began as a simple community event quickly became something much bigger. It became a powerful reminder that recovery is not a solo journey and that local partnerships truly matter.
As a volunteer partner and supporter, IPR Healthcare showed up not only to participate in the run but to stand beside a mission that transforms lives.
A Community United for Recovery
The Wheelhouse is a nonprofit recovery community dedicated to helping men break free from drug and alcohol addiction, rebuild their lives, and return to society as responsible and hopeful individuals. Because addiction impacts entire families, events like this one carry weight far beyond the starting line.
More than 400 runners gathered in Deer Park to support the cause. The turnout exceeded expectations, and the energy throughout the event reflected something deeper than competition. It reflected commitment.
Although the primary focus was recovery awareness, the event also strengthened relationships across the Deer Park community. As a result, partnerships between healthcare providers, nonprofit leaders, and local officials grew even stronger.
IPR Healthcare’s Role in the Event
IPR Healthcare participated as a volunteer partner. In addition to having team members run in the 5K, we sponsored bananas and granola bars for the runners. We also provided brochures and educational materials to help the community better understand our home health and hospice services.
Events like this represent more than visibility. They represent IPR Healthcare Community Outreach in action. We believe healthcare does not stop at the bedside. It extends into neighborhoods, parks, churches, and community events where people gather and connect.
Several members of our team actively participated in the run, including Angela Covarrubio, Giselle Shapiro, Wendy Shafer, and Michael Shafer. Their presence reflected our organization’s commitment to being involved, not just supportive from a distance.
A Personal Connection That Made It Even More Meaningful
For Angela Covarrubio, LVN Case Manager Assistant at IPR Healthcare, the event carried personal significance.
When I first heard about the The Wheelhouse Reclaim Run 5K, I thought, “I’ll sign up later.” But once I took the time to research The Wheelhouse and understand what they do, I had to be part of it.
My brother has been in recovery for some time now, and places like The Wheelhouse are incredibly important to men like him and to families like ours. Seeing the impact firsthand makes the mission even more meaningful.
I am beyond grateful to have been part of the very first 5K for The Wheelhouse. This race is no longer just another 5K on my calendar. It’s one I will continue to support year after year.
Her words captured what many families experience quietly. Recovery touches siblings, parents, children, and entire support systems. Therefore, community events like this one create space for healing beyond the individual.
Community Leaders in Attendance
The event also welcomed community leaders, including Jerry Mouton Jr., Mayor of Deer Park. In addition, congressional candidate Alex Mealer attended and interacted with participants.
As a home health and hospice agency, IPR Healthcare remains neutral and does not endorse political candidates. However, we appreciate any leader who takes time to engage with community initiatives focused on recovery and public health.
