Carla Mayfield, BSN, RN

Hospice Director of Nursing

For 33 years, Carla Mayfield has built her career around caring for others. Her journey in healthcare began in the dental profession, where she spent 23 years providing patient-centered care before following her calling to nursing. Over the past decade as a registered nurse, she has continued that commitment, caring for patients and families during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Carla earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with honors from Chamberlain University in Pearland and began her nursing career on a post-surgical and oncology unit at HCA Southeast. She later cared for oncology patients at Houston Methodist Baytown and Texas Oncology in Webster. Her dedication to compassionate, patient-centered nursing earned her the prestigious DAISY Award, recognizing extraordinary nursing care.

Her experience in oncology and hospice has shaped Carla’s belief that exceptional healthcare is about more than treating a diagnosis. It is about listening, understanding what matters most to each patient, and providing comfort, dignity, and support to both patients and their families.

As Director of Nursing for Hospice, Carla brings that same philosophy to her leadership. A servant leader at heart, she is passionate about mentoring and supporting clinicians, advancing quality care and regulatory excellence, and fostering a culture rooted in integrity, collaboration, and compassion.

Carla is committed to lifelong learning and evidence-based practice and is an active member of several professional nursing and hospice organizations, including the Oncology Nursing Society, Texas Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, Texas and New Mexico Hospice Organization, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Above all, Carla considers it a privilege to serve patients, families, and fellow clinicians. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, shopping adventures, camping, cruises, and the occasional casino getaway—experiences that help keep her grounded and bring renewed energy to the people she serves.
